CVNM reacts to Trump Executive Actions on Immigration, pledges support for all New Mexicans
Santa Fe, N.M. – In response to President Trump’s executive order on immigration and border security, Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) and CVNM Education Fund Executive Director Demis Foster released the following statement:
“The communities that the CVNM family of organizations and programs organize alongside across the state are among those that will be hardest hit by the Trump administration’s reckless actions on immigration, which stand in stark contrast with our American values.
The United States is a great country because of immigrants. Our diversity is one of our nation’s and our state’s greatest strengths. President Trump’s action doesn’t attack some of us, it attacks all of us. New Mexicans’ bucked national trends in the 2016 election that brought these troubling times to our country. We will not be swayed by these hate and ignorance-fueled actions that serve only to divide us. Instead, we will work for progress together, hand-in-hand with our neighbors, friends and colleagues from all walks of life toward a safer, healthier state for us all.
A border wall will cause destruction to one of the most unique habitats and important wildlife corridors in the American Southwest and will require billions of dollars that our country should invest elsewhere.”
